Day 1 WBC13: Rio Vista Wines Reception, Seaplane Ride & Dinner at Tsillan Cellars in Lake Chelan Wine Valley

Steve and I had a great time on the pre-excursion to Lake Chelan Wine Valley, organized by the 2013 Wine Bloggers Conference. We have LOTS of photos to share. After a hot coach ride (AC was broken – enough said) from Seattle we were happy to exit the bus and taste the wines offered at Rio Vista Wines. Our favorites included their 2011 Tempranillo and 2011 Malbec. A highlight was when winemaker John Little took us into the cool barrel room for a tasting of their Cabernet Sauvignon.

Next up was a seaplane flight, which included a fly over of the region’s wineries with in-person narration by Heather Neff of Nefarious Cellars. Her commentary made the gentle ride through the valley an experience we will not soon forget. Her are some choice pics:

Since we were the last group to take a flight, we were dropped off near the Tsillan Cellars event. We enjoyed wine tastings from the area wineries, including our host Tsillan Cellars, as well as Atam Winery, Vin du Lac, Ventimiglia Cellars, Nefarious Cellars and Hard Row to Hoe.

We then headed inside the restaurant, which had incredible views of Lake Chelan, for dinner. The menu included Oysters Rockefeller, Roasted Tomato Soup, Chicken Marsala, and Tiramisu for dessert, each with wine pairings. The owner Dr. Bob Jankelson and the winemaker Shane Collins gave us the history of the region and their wines as we partook in a delicious meal. Check it out:
