City Sip Wine Bar in Los Angeles, CA

We happened upon City Sip during a search for LA wine bars about a year ago. We ventured in and Helen served us a bunch of incredible wine and cheese along with great conversation and we vowed to be back. And we did go back. We went back on Jane’s birthday and then bought a couple of coupons through Living Social and enjoyed more outings to this LA wine bar.

City Sip, like the area it’s in – Echo Park – is a funky, hip place to sit and enjoy some great wine and simple dishes like cheese, salads, bruschetta, and paninis. Looking at City Sip’s Web site, we noticed that the owner left the entertainment industry to start this wine bar. Jane can definitely appreciate that. Having worked in entertainment for years now, the idea of leaving and working in wine sounds very appealing to both of us – ha!

Anyway, back to the bar – we decided to go City Sip after a crazy week of dealing with contractors and workers tearing apart our condo’s bathroom. We have been looking forward to having our bathroom renovated after a leak from above caused some damage. Well, be careful what you wish for. The plumber flooded our bathroom and bedroom and now we need all new hardwood floors in the bedroom. We went from a simple bathroom upgrade to an entire renovation of half of the condo. So after a ridiculous week of flooding and packing and moving stuff around, we needed a break. And of course we thought of City Sip!

So we took one of our Living Social coupons and headed there. Unfortunately, our friend Helen was not working this evening which was a bummer. We always enjoy our conversation and wine chat with her. We met some new people working there and this time around, we sampled a few different wines.

We fell in love with a very reasonable 2007 Carmenere from Vina Falernia in Chile. We bought a couple of bottles, which can also be found at various online retailers. If you are looking for a reasonable red, you need to check this one out.

We enjoyed the other wines they served us and we had some asparagus bruschetta and a Daddio Panini with fennel salami, truffle cheese, mozzarella and pesto.
