Artisan Cheese Gallery, Studio City, CA

We discovered this quaint little place, called the Artisan Cheese Gallery, since it’s just down the street from our favorite bank. As you can imagine they specialize in a blinding selection of not-so-run-of-the-mill cheeses. Jane and I often stop by on the weekends and share a salad and sandwich. If you can believe it the salad pictured is a small. We usually get two meals from one!

The salads are always satisfying featuring tangy chesse and subtle dressing along with other delectable items such as the olives that we love. The vibe is chill and quiet with small marble tables inside and a handful of similar outside seating tables as well, just in case you want to enjoy the sights and sounds of the neighborhood.

One of our favorite features of Artisan is that they also serve wine by the glass or bottle. The selection runs the gammut from Chardonnay to Pinot Noir to Cabernet and even a Zinfandel that we tried this time. The Ottimino 2006, Russian River Valley Zinfandel, which had a nice big body without being overwhelming. It was well balanced and avoided the big sugar  jamminess so often found in Zins. At $7 a glass or $20 a bottle it was a nice value and it tasted like many $12 glasses.

We plan on many future visits to Artisan and think you should give it a try as well.
